This week, Valeria Lipovetsky sits down with Alex Taylor, co-founder and Co-CEO of Perelel, the first and only OB/GYN-founded vitamin company. Alex opens up about a personal health scare—a shingles outbreak that led to an autoimmune diagnosis—revealing the gaps in women’s healthcare that inspired her to create Perelel. Together, they explore the challenges women face in the medical system, the changes in hormones throughout a woman’s life, and why self-advocacy is more crucial than ever. Alex also shares insights into the science behind Perelel’s innovative formulations, how health impacts fertility, the importance of supporting mental and physical well-being, and the mission to close the women’s health research gap.

ABOUT THE GUESTS

Alex Taylor

Alex Taylor is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Perelel, the first and only female OB/GYN-founded vitamin company offering clinically-backed, targeted nutrition designed to meet the unique needs of women at various stages of their hormonal journey. Alex spent the bulk of her career working in media, however, after her own health journey took a turn with an autoimmune diagnosis at age 28, she realized how little she knew about her body—a body that is wildly complex—but also a body that has been deeply oversimplified, objectified, and shamefully under-researched in medicine. This was only magnified as Alex navigated her fertility and later pregnancy journey and felt failed by the available products and resources on the market. Determined to advocate for herself, Alex learned about the importance of timing nutrients to her life stage and pieced together her own comprehensive vitamin routines with her team of doctors. Fast-forward to 2019, as Alex was navigating postpartum, she met Victoria Thain Gioia. After learning of Victoria’s prenatal experience with her daughter’s cleft lip, the two joined forces over a shared frustration about the state of women’s health and the unregulated, and consequently confusing, prenatal and women’s health industry. Appreciating that they were not doctors, Alex and Victoria joined forces with holistic OB/GYN, Dr. Banafsheh Bayati, and onboarded her as their Medical Co-Founder alongside an interdisciplinary team of the nation's foremost experts on women’s health who now comprise the company’s medical advisory team, known as the Perelel Panel, to run point on product development, research, clinicals, and power all of the brand’s educational content. With a commitment to creating targeted, efficacious, medically-backed products that meet the complex needs of key hormonal life stages, Perelel uses exclusively clinically-proven ingredients in their most bioavailable formats. All formulations are informed by the latest medical research coupled with the founder’s clinical insights to deliver the essential nutrients women need (no more, no less) for each specific life stage. Though growing evidence indicates that women’s bodies may benefit from certain vitamins not consumed through food, the prenatal industry remains gravely unregulated. Perelel has set out to change this.
